Jac Alva Art’s Sugar Rush Collection

Jac’s latest body of work, “Sugar Rush,” a collection of painted collages containing upcycled trash such as used sugar and alternative sweetener packets, has helped her reconcile with the past, while coping with anxiety about the future. Each collage is comprised of a painted background that matches the various colors of these waste particles. The collection contains hundreds of pieces of trash, meticulously cared for through cleaning, flattening, and gluing onto the canvas in various directions. Jac’s rhythmic layering, use of unusual media, and preference for vibrant colors channel her anxieties about climate change, hoarding, and mass consumerism into a playful platform.
