Stage One: Shock/Denial/Isolation
Stage One: Shock/Denial/Isolation
Multiple values of blue, purple, and green pulsate throughout the canvas in spontaneous, yet aggressive, brushstrokes. The chaotic nature of this piece implies the immediate upheaval I felt when outside forces struck me without warning. In an instant my world came crashing down. Nothing seemed safe or familiar. I felt naked, disoriented, and stripped of my former self. I imagined myself walking barefoot through a jungle, overwhelmed by the sounds of the environment; a symphony of chirps, shrieks, and howls. I repeatedly applied various layers of acrylic paint, and each layer overlaps the previous one. The layers reinforce my initial disbelief and inability to sort through the burden of intangible emotions.
